IT’S A SIMPLE MATTER : giving someone exactly what they’re looking for . oftentimes , a person will do it for her , need only look at her to gauge the weight of her worth , a pound of flesh for every pretty feature . she takes a certain pleasure in dismantling each faulty illusion , each skewed reasoning – or perhaps allowing them to fall further and further into their false impressions , only to find out at the last moment she held all the cards . shepard , though — shepard cuts through , a knife in the seam of her facades . it’s nice , in its own way , to see and be seen . a knowing gaze can chafe , can cut , wielded by the wrong person [ her father , the illusive man , niket at the very end ] but she eases underneath shepard’s . something like a smile curls at the very edges of her lips , ghosting at the possibility of warmth .
